Kathryn L. Lovero, PhD

Kate Lovero is an Assistant Professor of Sociomedical Sciences at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She was previously a T32 postdoctoral fellow with the Columbia Global Mental Health Programs. Dr. Lovero uses a community-based participatory research approach to identify best practice for implementing evidence-based treatments for adolescent mental illness in low-resource settings. Currently, she is collaborating with the Ministry of Health in Mozambique to develop and pilot services for adolescent mental illness integrated within primary care. Prior to her work at Columbia, Dr. Lovero was a Global Health Equity Scholar and Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she worked to define barriers to and develop improved services for maternal-child health. Dr. Lovero earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco, where she examined the molecular structures required for normal synapse development.
