Mona’s passion is to provide education to girls in parts of the world where it is not easily accessible. She is currently working with others to build a classroom for girls whose lives have been forever changed by the devastation of the long and tragic civil war in Sri Lanka. This classroom will be located on the grounds of a hostel in the northern area of Jaffna, where 31 girls have been living, next to their school. The hostel allows these girls to begin to look towards a better future and the new classroom, for another 25 girls, will help divert the daily confrontation with treacherous treks while commuting, unreliable bus transport and home situations filled with unimaginable hardship and tragedy.
Mona has also lived in the U.S. (New Jersey), in Japan (Tokyo), and in Korea (Seoul) and she currently resides in Hong Kong with her husband and three children, ages 20, 18 and 15.
