Council for the Advancement of Global Mental Health Research

The Global Mental Health Programs has launched a Council for the Advancement of Global Mental Health Research to advance its mission in global mental health research. The Council will establish a Small Grants Program to support new investigators and new ideas in global mental health.

The Council is assembled of engaged, mental health ambassadors, invited from a variety of backgrounds, professions and world-wide locations.Current council members are based in 5 countries and 12 states in the United States. Council members are nominated by members of our International Advisory Board, Columbia faculty, or current Council members.

Our first Council Meeting launched on February 11, 2019, with a half-day conference at Columbia University.  We met with faculty; held a panel discussion with current investigators; and led generative, small-group discussions about several relevant mental health topics. Our goal for this conference was to not only assemble a council but also assemble a community that will support investigators with new ideas and mentoring so that we can advance research to improve mental health, understanding, and interventions.   Our challenge is making sure treatments are effective and available everywhere.
