On February 24th, 2021, over 80 individuals from all over the world joined our virtual meeting in support of the Council for the Advancement of Global Mental Health Research.
Dedicated to supporting new investigators and new ideas in improving mental health training and services worldwide, Council Members come together annually to talk with the scholars and awardees of the Council Grants Program.
This year, Council Grant recipients shared updates on the research they are currently conducting:
- In Mexico: developing methods to accurately estimate the size of the migrant population and their mental health;
- In Nigeria: creating digital video interventions for adolescent women with perinatal depression;
- In Kenya: adapting innovative strategies to reduce alcohol use and strengthen families;
- Worldwide: leveraging technology to assess the impact of COVID-19 on mood and depression.
At this year’s Annual Meeting, Council Members also had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Kelli Harding, Columbia psychiatrist and author, who discussed the powerful evidence indicating that kindness can have a tremendous impact on mental health.
Throughout the meeting, the presentations by Council Grant recipients and Dr. Harding centered on the theme of applying social sciences research into practice.
